Post subject:  Can't find any repositories!

I have Navigatrix 0.5 (Sep. 2013) installed on a computer at home (so I can test things while not on the boat) and it is connected via wifi to my home braodband connection.

If I run Synaptic Package manager and do reload (or indeed try to download any package) I get an error message like

Failed to fetch http://ftp.ticklers.org/archive.ubuntu. ... 6/Packages 404 Not Found [IP: 90.207.225.196 80]

I am in the UK and I tried several of the servers in the UK, as well as some in the US and several other, and then I tried "Select best server"

"No suitable download server was found"

Going to the website where the url points eg http://ubuntu.mirrors.uk2.net/ubuntu/di ... 6/Packages

I find there is no subdirectory called /raring/

What should I do please?

I had the same problem and this post helped.

From the source linked above:
Quote:
Normal Ubuntu releases are supported for 9 months, whereas LTS (Long Term Support) releases are supported for 5 years. Once support is up for the version of Ubuntu you are using the repository is moved to another server and will no longer be available on the standard http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/dist/ location.

The suggested remedy in the source linked above is to replace the relevant entries in the configuration file /etc/apt/sources.list by running the following command at a terminal prompt (essentially a simple "search & replace" on steroids):
Code:
sudo sed -i -e 's/archive.ubuntu.com\|security.ubuntu.com/old-releases.ubuntu.com/g' /etc/apt/sources.list

*Note*: This worked with the repository server set to "Main server" but not if the server was set to the (in my case German) country server.
After running the above sed command you can run
Code:
sudo apt-get update

to update all sources.

It was. I think it would have even solved the other David's GIMP-dev problem.
