Post subject:  RECEIVING UGRIB FILES & email USING MOBILE PHONE as hotspot

A skipper I was with recently sets up his mobile phone (with data roaming on it) as a HotSpot which his Laptop can tap into, so that Ugrib files and emails to him can be picked up when he is within mobile phone range of shore.

Saves going into port and trying to find a WiFi network/forecasts.

Mobiles work to a range of around 7-15 Nm off shore in my experience (in Western Europe).

Ugrib files are made specially to be small downloads so they cost little in time/money to get, they are only some 400k (depending on what resolution you choose, but this size is normally fine)

Hope this helps someone, cheers :)
