Post subject:  how do i stop gpsd

Hi,

How do i stop gpsd from running, i was playing with firmata and arduino which needs the ttyUSB0 and I cannot connect to it . After hrs of head scratching, it appears gpsd was hogging the port. I kill the process but it runs again on its own after a while, so how do i stop it (and restart it if i wanted to).
All this business of ttyusb permission is rather confusing...like what is dialout, who got permission to use which port etc... what I want is command to find out whats what ports are available, what ports are free and what process is using which ports and how to do a simple confidence test on the port, not a lot to ask I know!

Would appreciate someone demystify the usb port thing.

Thanks,
Ken

Some useful gpsd commands:

sudo dpkg-reconfigure gpsd

sudo /etc/init.d/gpsd stop

sudo /etc/init.d/gpsd restart
