Post subject:  USB Serial Adapter Problem

Hi to all,
I do have a PTCIIpro PACTOR modem with a serial port. If I plug in the USB to Serial converter in the PC I see the converter if i type lsusb. As you see the adapter is there. I am using Airmail for connecting to Winlink stations. Now i have the problem to find what COM port I have to address to communicate with the pactor modem. non of the Com1 to Com9 is present. What can I do to make this adapter communicate with airmail/pactor.

Can sombuddy help me solve that problem.

try the command "comports" it shows the serial ports and how they are linked to airmail.

Hi David,

thanks for your replay. I tried "comports -l" and have the folowing results

lapalomadhpi@lapalomadhpi-To-Be-Filled-By-O-E-M:~$ comports -l
/dev/com1 -> /dev/ttyS0
/dev/com2 -> /dev/ttyS1
/dev/com3 -> /dev/ttyUSB0
/dev/com4 -> /dev/ttyUSB1
lapalomadhpi@lapalomadhpi-To-Be-Filled-By-O-E-M:~$ comports -l
/dev/com1 -> /dev/ttyS0
/dev/com2 -> /dev/ttyS1
/dev/com3 -> /dev/ttyUSB1
lapalomadhpi@lapalomadhpi-To-Be-Filled-By-O-E-M:~$ comports -l
/dev/com1 -> /dev/ttyS0
/dev/com2 -> /dev/ttyS1
/dev/com3 -> /dev/ttyUSB0
/dev/com4 -> /dev/ttyUSB1
lapalomadhpi@lapalomadhpi-To-Be-Filled-By-O-E-M:~$

first an third is with the adapter in an USB port. It seems that it is com3 for the adapter. After I restart Airmail and change to com3 the port com3 is not available. What can I do now.

Hi David,

I do have com1 and com2 as physical port on my computer. With com1 and com2 Airmail is working. In case I have to change computer with no physical com ports I wanted to try this option out. Therefore you see com1 and com2 in the above list.

can you try it once more but this time booting from a usb stick with "factory defaults" and only changing the usb port according to the comports -l output ?
