Trying to make my modest contribution in system popularity i've written my experience of installation and tunning Navigatrix on my website. It is russian language guide. http://iyt.sosnin.org/index.php/ru/prak ... igartix-ru so, i made it if form of guide with plenty of printscreens and detailed explanations to make even "full zero" user enjoy the system. |

Well done. (I used a translator because the 4 Russian phrases I know didn't get me very far.) I'm surprized wxcam was problematic for you, but glad you found a solution and that <ctrl><alt><prn scr> will place a uniquely named screenshot on your Desktop. Menu items missing a prefered language can be modified by editing their corresponding <name>.desktop file located in /usr/share/applications/ To see what the format that's required; look at this as an example Code: sudo gedit /usr/share/applications/pcmanfm.desktop Unfortunately some (many) programs do not have any other language available.

But in Languages&Text there is only one language active - English - rest of it is not, in spite of i've downloaded required russian support offered bellow. Therefore, i do not understand how to switch system language support, so, i use english cause for me it is not a problem. |

I'm a native english speaker and using english gets me into so much trouble. There's a trick to changing prefered language. I'll walk through the whole process. The language at the top of the list will be used first. If there are gap s or missing translations the computer will select vocabulary from the next language of preference in the list. If there is no translation available from that language group the computer moves to the next language on the list, and so on,...until...ultimately it reaches the default language...english. Everything below english is ignored. Some applications, the Planetarium (Stellarium), for example, need to be individually configured. |

The problem with hotlinking (inline linking) is that you don't have control over the content; a file is moved and you end up with a dead link. Worse than that is a hostile referrer rewrite to an embarrassing 'shock site' file...what was originally hotlinked as a scenic south sea island paradise entitled "My favourite place" becomes the hello.jpg image from goatse.cx. It doesn't matter anyway because, as far as I know, hotlinking isn't allowed from navigatrix.net. My opinion, for what it's worth: If you want a something; you take it. The 'nice' thing to do is give credit...but nobody says you need to be nice. Sometimes 'nice' is cumbersome and interrupts the flow; if I were to credit the source of everything not originally mine my life would be one large footnote....nearly all footnote. But I digress. If, for some technical/logistic reason, you need to hotlink make your pitch via email to the crew 'at' navigatrix.net and they may modify the rules. |

The keyboard layout (map) is in another location. Open a termınal <ctrl><alt><t> Into the terminal enter Code: setxkbmap -option grp:switch,grp:alt_shift_toggle,grp_led:scroll ru,us This sets the <alt><shift> keys to toggle between the US and Russian keyboards.Try it. Hitting <alt><shift> will switch between the two. If you like what you see Code: echo "setxkbmap -option grp:switch,grp:alt_shift_toggle,grp_led:scroll ru,us" >> ~/.bashrc will make this command/key combination available all the time.If you don't like it Code: setxkbmap -option turns it off, disabling the key combination with the keyboard staying on the last setting.
